Observations of feeding behaviour of an Oxyrhopus melanogenys (Serpentes: Dipsadidae): description of a novel prey-processing manoeuvre. pp. 126-130.

Abstract. An Oxyrhopus melanogenys was observed consuming a mouse in the Peruvian Amazon, exhibiting an unexpected and apparently undescribed behaviour. The posterior portion of the body was used to press the mouse into the snake’s mouth, utilizing a repeated coiling manoeuvre directed at the snake’s feeding apparatus. The potential significance of this observation is discussed.
