On Warszewicz’s trail again: a reply to Suárez-Mayorga (2022). pp. 343-346.
Abstract. The Colombian frog Dendropsophus labialis (Peters, 1863) was synonymized with Hyla molitor Schmidt, 1857 (as Dendropsophus molitor) by Jungfer (2017). Suárez-Mayorga (2022) doubted their conspecifity. Here, we reject her (2022) view stating that most of the characters enumerated by her for Hyla molitor do not exist and we doubt that she has inspected any type material at all. We demonstrate that no other Dendropsophus or Smilisca, as hypothesized by Suárez-Mayorga (2022), exhibits the morphological characters of the lectotype of D. molitor but the frog formerly known as D. labialis and thus confirm Jungfer’s (2017) view of D. labialis being a junior synonym of D. molitor. An etymology of the specific name molitor is given.
